Proofing Process

Before sending a file to print, a thorough proofing procedure is essential to ensure accuracy and quality. The process begins with a detailed review of the design, checking for any spelling, grammar, or formatting errors. Next, all images and graphics are inspected for resolution, color mode (CMYK for print), and proper placement. Bleeds, margins, and trim areas must be verified to prevent important content from being cut off. Additionally, fonts should be embedded or outlined to avoid unexpected substitutions. A preflight check using professional software can help detect technical issues such as missing links or incorrect color settings. Finally, a hard copy proof or digital soft proof should be carefully reviewed and approved by the client before sending the file to print, ensuring the final product meets expectations.

Ensure the file has crop marks and bleed relevant to the finish size.

A business card requires approx 3mm bleed and crop marks to indicate finish size (this is where we will cut).

An 8×4 foot sign naturally requires a bit more bleed, especially if you want it to wrap around the edge or use eyelets. Provide adequate bleed for larger pieces.
